Contest with Strength or Agility

Try a contest of Strength, Agility, Roguery, or Weapon Skill (your choice) against the target’s Strength or Agility (they choose which to contest with) to try to make them drop their weapon or another item of your choice that they are holding.

Weapon Skill: Roll to hit instead of rolling a test of skill.

If the target is holding the weapon or item with two or more hands, they have advantage on the contest of skill.
When you use this technique on a Heavy Attack, you may spend 1 more stamina for advantage on this contest of skill.

If you win, the target drops the item in a space of your choice adjacent to them, or the item is flung to a space of your choice up to 15 ft. away from them.
A delicate item may be at risk of breaking if it is not dropped in an adjacent space.

A creature that can reach the disarmed item can pick it up at the cost of 5 ft. of movement.

Not all items can be disarmed easily, or at all. Some items or weapons may be secured against being disarmed such as by being tied down, fastened, or welded into a creature’s armor, or by being magically tethered to their wielder.

You cannot use other techniques with this attack.

(Normally, anyone can try to grab a weapon out of a target’s grasp as an action, students of this course can also attack and do damage at the same time, and can fling disarmed weapons away.)

(Using this Ability Effectively:
Retrieving a disarmed item is not hard. Getting full value from Disarm often requires a plan in which disarming the item is only one part. You can force an engaged enemy to disengage, take an opportunity attack, or fight unarmed by flinging it away. You can keep the enemy from getting their weapon back by picking it up yourself, having an ally pick it up, or immobilizing the enemy before they can reach it. And if you really do not want them to get it back, you might even consider putting it in another dimension using Pocket Pull, or other lasting solutions.)

When you use Disarming Attack, if the disarmed item lands in a space occupied by a target, you may make a thrown weapon attack against that target with it.
(Thrown weapon attacks are ranged attacks which allow you to use your bonus to hit with either melee or ranged weapons on them).

Hits with this technique make twice as much progress toward breaking breakable monster parts.
When you crit with this technique against a creature with limbs, if the Headmaster deems it appropriate they may have that creature attempt a DC 10 health save and have one of its limbs chopped off if it fails.
(It is very unlikely that this will be deemed an appropriate thing to do to another Adventurer. That’s forbidden.)
