Buffs make their targets better at something.
Shields normally do 1 base weapon damage on a hit if you use them as a weapon, but you deal 1d4 base weapon damage with shields instead.

You resist physical damage while defending with a shield.

You get an AC bonus while wielding a shield.
Additionally, you can cover weaknesses in your armor’s protection well with your shield.
While you are wielding a shield, increase the AC bonus you get from your body armor by +1, up to a maximum of +10.
